Our man at the crime scene
Florian Froschmayer shot the most brutal TV crime show of the year
The brutality of the first scene in Florian Froschmayer's latest episode of the Swiss CRIME SCENE makes it a source of great controversy because of its brutality. The director's set is also pretty rough.
Blood spurts, corpses on the ground - a sniper delivers ruthless justice. The Zurich director Florian Froschmayer (42) has got tongues wagging with this scene in the latest episode of the Swiss CRIME SCENE even more it has been broadcast (tomorrow, 20.05 clock, SRF 1).
Never before has a crime series from Lucerne been so bloody, so brutal and at the same time so exciting. Did Froschmayer want to revolutionize CRIME SCENE with this beginning? "I do not ask myself this question. I had a vision and I made it happen," said the filmmaker at his debut in Lucerne. Froschmayer knows exactly what crime show audiences want to see on a Sunday evening. He has filmed four CRIME SCENE episodes for German television since 2008 - with great success. These recently reached 9.5 million TV viewers, two million more than the crime series from Lucerne. Froschmayer is our man at the "crime scene" yet again.
The trip to Switzerland and the work with actors Stefan Gubser (58) and Delia Mayer (48) were great fun for the Berliner by choice. "It was great to switch to Swiss German and meet old friends," he says. "It felt almost like a family gathering."
Nevertheless, he had to get used to the habits in Switzerland first. "On German film sets, contact is much rougher," he says. "In the beginning, I was probably too direct with the crew." But a director must stand his ground. "A film is not a democracy, one has to lay down the law," he says. Froschmayer doesn't know whether he will be working again in Switzerland soon. "Where I film is not so important to me. What matters is the script."
